How Do You Make Your Own Pumpkin Puree?

Making your own fresh pumpkin puree is actually really easy – and the best part is that it tastes so much better than a can of pumpkin puree!

The best pumpkins for this purpose are those that have a high sugar content and are high in water such as sugar pumpkins or pie pumpkins.

1. Start by cutting your pumpkin in half. Scoop out the seeds and stringy bits, then discard them.

2. Cut the pumpkin halves into smaller pieces so they’ll fit on a baking sheet. roast in a 425 degree oven for about 45 minutes, or until the flesh is soft.

3. Let the roasted pumpkin pieces cool slightly, then scoop out the flesh and puree in a food processor or blender until smooth. (You can also use an immersion blender if you have one.)

Store your homemade pumpkin purée in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week. Or if you make a big batch, store your leftover pumpkin in the freezer for up to six months. To make sure your pumpkin puree stays fresh, make sure to label and date the container before you put it away.
