Can You Make Donuts with Bisquick?
Yes, you can definitely make donuts with Bisquick! The versatile baking mix simplifies the process, allowing you to whip up delicious, fluffy donuts quickly.
How to Make Donuts With Bisquick
With Bisquick, you can whip up donut batter quickly, making it perfect for last-minute cravings or busy mornings. It reduces prep time significantly and it helps achieve a reliable texture and flavor, resulting in consistently fluffy and delicious donuts every time.
When combining the Bisquick mix with wet ingredients, mix just until combined to keep the donuts light and fluffy. Overmixing can lead to dense donuts.
Without a pan, you can shape the donuts by rolling out your dough to about 1/2 inch think on a floured surface. Use a donut cutter to cut out the donuts.
Decide if you’d like to fry or bake your donuts:
Baking: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the shaped donuts on a greased baking sheet and bake for about 10-12 minutes or until golden
Frying: Heat oil in a deep skillet over medium heat. Use an oil with a high smoke point, like vegetable or canola oil. This helps achieve a crispy exterior. Once hot (around 350 degrees), carefully drop in the donuts and fry until golden brown on both sides, about 1-2 minutes each. Drain excess oil on paper towels.
Let your donuts cool before glazing or frosting them. This prevents the glaze from melting off and allows it to set properly.
Delicious Donut Toppings
Get creative with toppings!
For chocolate donuts, prepare your favorite chocolate ganache while the donuts cool, then dip them in the ganache and add toppings before letting them dry on wax paper.
To make cinnamon sugar donuts, let the baked donuts cool, then dip each one in melted butter before coating them in a cinnamon-sugar mixture. Place them on parchment or wax paper to dry.
How to Store Bisquick Donuts
Fresh donuts will last up to 3 days on the counter in an airtight container.
If you used heavy whipping cream when you made chocolate ganache to dip the donuts in, you will need to store those in the fridge in an airtight container for up to three days.

Homemade Donut Recipe with Bisquick
Ingredients
- 1 ½ cups Bisquick Baking Mix
- 1 tablespoon white sugar
- 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 large egg, whisked
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- ¾ cup milk
- 1 tablespoon frozen butter, grated
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
- Lightly spray your donut pan with your favorite non-stick cooking spray and set aside.
- In a large bowl, combine Bisquick, sugar, and ground cinnamon and whisk together and set aside.
- Whisk the egg with a fork or small whisk in a small bowl and then add to the Bisquick mixture.
- Add in the vanilla and then the milk.
- Mix the dry ingredients together with the wet ingredients using a whisk or a large spoon until the mixture is smooth. If it appears a bit dry, add more milk in, 1 tablespoon at a time until you reach a smooth consistency.
- Grate the frozen butter on top of the batter and then mix with a spoon.
- Add the batter into the donut pan filling it 2/3rds of the way full. You can use a spoon, a small measuring cup, or fill a piping bag with the batter.
- Bake for 6 to 8 minutes or until the donuts are done.
- To add an extra bit of sweetness and flavor to your pancake mix donuts, sprinkle some powdered sugar over your cooled donuts before serving. Or try adding some melted chocolate or sprinkles for an extra special touch!
Enjoy your homemade donuts while they're still warm!
Notes
How to Make Cinnamon Sugar Donuts:
After removing them from the oven, let them cool for a bit. Then melt butter in a small bowl that’s wide enough to dip the donuts into. Next, in another bowl, combine cinnamon and sugar together to make a cinnamon-sugar mixture.
Then dip the donuts, one at a time, into the butter and then into the cinnamon-sugar mixture. Then place them on parchment paper or wax paper to let them dry.
To Make Chocolate Donuts:
While the donuts are cooling, create your favorite chocolate ganache recipe. Then once the donuts have cooled, dip them into the chocolate and add your favorite toppings and place them on wax paper or parchment paper and let them dry.
Keep in mind that these are a denser donut and will have a distinct taste to them since you used Bisquick. To help moisten them up, add the frozen butter into the batter so when the donuts bake, the butter will release into the batter.
