What is a buttercream board?

Colorful buttercream is piped or swirled directly onto a board and paired with cookies, pretzels, graham crackers, or fruit for dipping. It’s like an edible canvas—perfect for parties, holidays, or any time you want to turn dessert into an interactive (and totally sweet) experience.

How to Make a Halloween Frosting Board

  1. Plan Your Design: Download and print your Ghost template.
  2. Pick a Theme & Color Palette: Choose your Halloween colors and how you’ll arrange your frosting and treats. Use Gel Food Coloring for vibrant colors without thinning out the frosting.
  3. Make the Buttercream: Whip up vanilla buttercream (homemade or store-bought), divide into bowls, and tint with gel food coloring in spooky shades.
  4. Pipe & Swirl: Use piping bags and tips (or spoons) to add colorful frosting sections to your board with different textures and shapes.
  5. Create Texture: Use a mix of piping tips (stars, round, leaf tips) and even swirl with a spoon or offset spatula for dimension.
  6. Pop it in the fridge for 10–15 minutes so the buttercream holds its shape better.
  7. Decorate with Candy: Fill empty spaces with Halloween candies—think candy eyes, sprinkles, gummy worms, and more.
  8. Add Dippers: Arrange cookies, crackers, or mini cupcakes around the board for dipping.
  9. Use a Large Base: A cookie sheet or large cutting board makes the perfect surface for building your board.
Can I make this ahead of time?

Yes! You can build the board a few hours ahead. Just store it in the fridge and add delicate candies or cookies right before serving so they don’t get soggy.

What’s the best way to store leftovers?

Keep leftover buttercream and dippable treats in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
