Red Velvet Brownies Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cup granulated sugar & 4 tablespoons divided
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ cup unsalted butter
- ⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 cup water
- 3 eggs
- ¼ cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon red gel food coloring
- ¼ cup chocolate chips
- 4 ounces softened cream cheese
- 2 ounces heavy whipping cream
Instructions
- Prepare a 9×13 baking pan by spraying with cooking spray and then lining with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, add the dry ingredients – flour, sugar, brown sugar, and baking soda
- Add butter, cocoa, and water to a small saucepan and bring the melted chocolate to a boil. Remove from heat and add the wet ingredients to the flour. Whisk to combine.
- Whisk 2 eggs and add to the batter. Then, whisk in buttermilk, vanilla extract, and food coloring.
- Stir in chocolate chips. Pour batter into the prepared baking pan.
- To make the cream cheese frosting, in a small bowl, whisk cream cheese with heavy whipping cream. Pour mixture into the center of the brownie pan. Use a knife to swirl the cream cheese throughout the red velvet brownie batter. Place into the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes. Brownies are complete once a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- For clean, neat cuts, use a sharp knife dipped in hot water or wiped with a damp cloth between the individual pieces. This prevents the brownies from sticking to the knife.
