Oreo Spiders

These Oreo Spider Cookies are an easy no-bake Halloween treat made with crushed Oreos, cream cheese, candy melts and edible eyes.

Instead of decorating whole sandwich cookies, this recipe turns a simple Oreo truffle mixture into cute little spiders.

The chocolate legs take a few extra minutes to make, but they give each Oreo spider a fun, creepy-crawly look that is perfect for Halloween parties.

Kids can help roll the Oreo balls, add the candy eyes and assemble the spiders once the chocolate legs have hardened.

Make them ahead of time and keep them chilled until you’re ready to serve.

Ingredients for Oreo Spider Cookies

Here is what you will need to make these easy Halloween treats:

  • Oreo cookies: Use classic Oreos or another chocolate sandwich cookie.
  • Cream cheese: Soften it first so it blends smoothly with the cookie crumbs.
  • Candy melts or almond bark: Brown or black chocolate creates the spider legs and holds the eyes in place.
  • Candy eyes: Look for these in the baking or seasonal aisle.

How do you make Oreo Spiders?

  • Blend Oreos and softened cream cheese.Chill the Oreo-cream cheese mixture if it’s too soft to roll. Then roll into 25 small balls.
  • Prepare and freeze candy legs so they stay sturdy.
  • Attach legs and candy eyes with melted chocolate or almond bark, using a piping or Ziploc bag for neatness.
  • Chill the finished spiders for at least 30 minutes before serving so they hold their shape.
Can I Use Different Oreo Flavors?

Yes. Classic, Double Stuf, chocolate creme and Halloween Oreos can all be used. Golden Oreos will also work, but the spiders will have a lighter color and a different flavor.

Do I have to use chocolate for the legs?

No, you can use pretzel sticks, Pocky, or licorice instead.

How Do I Keep Oreo Spiders From Falling Apart?

Make sure the cookies are finely crushed and completely blended with the cream cheese. If the mixture feels too soft, refrigerate it before rolling. Chill the completed Oreo spider cookies for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Can I Make Oreo Spiders Without a Food Processor?

Place the Oreos in a sealed plastic bag and crush them into very fine crumbs with a rolling pin. Transfer the crumbs to a bowl and mix them thoroughly with the softened cream cheese.

Can I Make Oreo Spider Cookies Ahead of Time?

Yes. You can make them up to two days before serving. Store them in a covered container in the refrigerator and wait to arrange them on your serving platter until party time.

Ingredients

  • 18 oz. package of Oreo cookies
  • 8 oz. cream cheese softened
  • 6 oz. brown or black candy melts or almond bark
  • Candy eyes – about 50

Instructions

  • Place into a food processor until crumbs are fine
  • Scoop about 2/3 cup of cookie crumbs for later
  • Cut cream cheese into smaller chunks and add to the food processor until cream cheese and cookies are well blended.
  • Using a small scoop or spoon, scoop out 25 tablespoon size balls the Oreo mixture and roll each scoop into a ball.
  • In a small microwavable bowl, melt the almond bark and put into a small squeeze bottle or you could use a Ziploc bag and make a very small cut in the corner.
  • Pipe spider legs onto parchment paper.  These legs will just be an "L" shape.  You will need 6 spider legs per spider. I would recommend making extra in case of breakage.
  • Place candy legs into a freezer for about 10 minutes to fully harden.
  • Attach candy eyes onto the spider body by using some of the excess melted chocolate
  • Insert 6 legs into each spider body.

Notes

Store your spider oreo cookies in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
