Is strawberry shortcake better with biscuits or sponge cake?

Traditional strawberry shortcake is made with sweet biscuits, which soak up the strawberries and whipped cream for a classic texture and flavor. Sponge cake is softer and lighter, but biscuit-style shortcake—especially with Bisquick—offers a more traditional homemade taste.

How do you make shortcake biscuits?

Shortcake biscuits are made by mixing baking mix like Bisquick with milk, sugar, and butter to form a soft dough, then baking until golden and fluffy. Once baked, the biscuits are split open and layered with juicy strawberries and whipped cream to create the traditional strawberry shortcake dessert.

Can I use store-bought biscuits for strawberry shortcake?

Yes, you can if you need a quick shortcut. Warm the biscuits slightly before serving, then layer them with sweetened strawberries and whipped cream for an easy version of this classic dessert.

Can I use frozen strawberries?

Yes. Thaw them first and drain excess liquid so your shortcakes don’t become soggy.

Can I make Bisquick shortcakes ahead of time?
