You can add any spices or herbs that you want to make it unique, but this one includes everything from salt, yeast, flour and sugar.

The best part? It’s so easy to make at home- no need for expensive appliances like a bread machine!

Who doesn’t love the smell of fresh bread baking in the oven? It is so comforting, and with all the ingredients you probably already have at home it is a great recipe to make.

Homemade bread recipes can be intimidating for a lot of people, especially with multiple rise times. But it’s actually very easy and fun to make! Especially with this one hour bread recipe.

The best thing about bread is all the different ways you can enjoy it. You could dip a piece of the crispy crust in a bowl of soup or olive oil; have french toast for breakfast, and sometimes homemade bread tastes so good that all you want to eat with it are butter or jam!

Tips for Making Fresh Bread

  • Always start with fresh yeast. You will know the yeast is working when it starts to form a creamy foam on top.
  • Let bread rise in a warm place.

Here’s what you will need:

Make Your Bread Dough

To get started, mix salt, honey and yeast with warm water.

Let the yeast mixture sit for 5-10 minutes so that the mixture becomes foamy on top.

In a large bowl, add the yeast mix to 3 cups of flour in a mixing bowl.

Mix with a wooden spoon or use a stand mixer with the dough hook. Be sure to scrape down the sides of the bowl.

Sprinkle flour on your work surface and start kneading the bread on the floured surface.

Add more flour as needed, until the consistency of the dough no longer stick to your fingers.

Create Your Loaf of Bread

You can form one large loaf or shape loaves on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper,

Divide dough with a sharp knife into smaller loaves into a loaf pan sprayed with cooking spray.

Let dough rise on the counter for at least 15 minutes, covered with a large dish towel.

In a small bowl, mix an egg and water.

Using a pastry brush, add egg wash to the top of the dough.

Bake your easy bread for 30-40 minutes at 400 degrees fahrenheit until golden brown.

Let cool on a cooling rack and enjoy!

How Long Does Fresh Bread Last?

Wrap leftover bread in plastic wrap or in a ziplock bag and keep at room temperature for 2-3 days. We love to use leftover bread to make garlic bread.

If you’d like to freeze your bread, wrap it in tin foil and then plastic wrap. Freeze for up to 3 months.

Should I use bread flour to make homemade bread?

Bread flour is generally used in place of all-purpose white flour when making yeast doughs.

The higher protein content results in a better rise, stronger gluten structure, and chewier texture compared with all-purpose flour, making it an ideal choice for rustic loaves.
