Don’t miss the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post for a complete list of ingredients and step-by-step instructions to make this dish a breeze!

What type of steak is best for an air fryer?
Tender cuts like ribeye, sirloin steaks, filet mignon, or New York strip steak are the best cut of steak for the air fryer. These cuts cook evenly and remain juicy when air-fried. Avoid very thin steaks as they may overcook quickly.

Preheat the air fryer to 400°F.
Prepare the steak by patting it dry with paper towels, brushing with oil, and seasoning.

Cook the steak in the air fryer for 6–14 minutes, flipping halfway through, depending on your preferred doneness.
How long do you cook steak in the air fryer?
The cooking time varies depending on the thickness of your steak and your preferred doneness. Generally, cook a 1-inch thick steak at 400 degrees F for about:
- Rare: 6–8 minutes
- Medium Rare: 8–10 minutes
- Medium: 10–12 minutes
- Well Done: 12–14 minutes
Always use an instant-read thermometer for accuracy. (125°F for rare, 145°F for medium).
Rest for 5 minutes before slicing and serving.

The best side dishes for steak are all about complementing its rich, savory flavors.
Crispy potato wedges are a classic choice, offering a satisfying crunch with every bite. Roasted vegetable recipes like caramelized Brussels sprouts or tender baked carrots add a healthy and flavorful balance to the meal. For a fresh and crunchy option, a classic Caesar salad with its tangy dressing and crispy croutons is always a hit.
And don’t forget homemade garlic bread—it’s perfect for soaking up those delicious steak juices.
