How to shred Brussel sprouts?

Shredding Brussels sprouts is simple and can be done in a few ways, depending on your tools and preferences. After washing, trimming the ends and removing any outer leaves, there are a few methods you can use:

  • Food Processor – Attach the shredding or slicing blade to your food processor. Feed the sprouts through the chute while the processor is running.
  • Mandoline Slicer – Carefully slide each sprout across the blade of the mandoline. Use the hand guard to protect your fingers.
  • Using a Sharp Knife – Slice each sprout in half lengthwise, then place the flat side down for stability. Thinly slice the sprouts into shreds.

After shredding, separate the layers with your fingers to ensure the shreds roast or sauté evenly.

Save time by grabbing a bag of pre-shaved sprouts from the produce section.

How to cook shredded sprouts and bacon?

  • Start by tossing halved or shredded Brussels sprouts with olive oil, salt, and pepper, then spread them on a baking sheet.
  • Add chopped bacon directly to the pan, allowing the sprouts and bacon to roast together in the oven.
  • Spread sprouts in a single, even layer—crowding the pan will steam them instead of roasting.
  • As the bacon crisps and releases its savory fat, the sprouts caramelize beautifully, creating the perfect balance of smoky, salty, and nutty flavors.
  • If you want, drizzle with balsamic glaze or sprinkle with Parmesan before serving.

How long to cook sliced Brussel sprouts in the oven?

Roast sliced Brussels sprouts at 400°F for 18 to 25 minutes, stirring halfway through. Thinner slices cook faster and get crispier. Toss with olive oil, salt, and pepper before baking for the best flavor.

Can I use frozen Brussels sprouts for this recipe?

Yes, they can be used in a pinch. Just make sure to thaw and drain them well before roasting to avoid sogginess.

Do I need to blanch the sprouts first?

Nope! Shaved sprouts roast quickly and don’t need to be blanched beforehand.
