How to Make Spaghetti in the Instant Pot

Gather the ingredients:

Instant Pot Spaghetti Ingredients
  • Sauté ground beef in the Instant Pot until cooked, then drain the grease.
  • Layer spaghetti instead of piling them together. Crisscrossing the spaghetti helps prevent clumping while cooking.
  • Add water, your favorite sauce like a bolognese recipe and the cooked beef in the pot.
  • Seal the lid, cook on manual for 8 minutes, and quick release immediately. This keeps the pasta from becoming too soft.
  • Serve with cheese and bread for dipping.
A collage of five images shows the process of making instant pot spaghetti: browning ground beef, adding uncooked spaghetti, pouring in tomato sauce, mixing ingredients, and the final cooked spaghetti with meat sauce.

Can I cook dry pasta in the Instant Pot?

Yes! Dry pasta cooks beautifully in the Instant Pot without boiling it first. As long as there’s enough liquid in the pot, the pasta becomes tender while absorbing flavor from the sauce.

What is the one ingredient that makes spaghetti sauce so much better?

A small amount of Parmesan cheese, butter, or a splash of heavy cream can make spaghetti sauce richer. Fresh garlic, fresh basil, or a pinch of sugar can also help balance the flavors depending on the sauce you’re using.

How long do you cook spaghetti in an Instant Pot?

Most dry spaghetti cooks in about 8 minutes on High Pressure, followed by a quick release. Cooking time may vary slightly depending on the thickness and brand of pasta.

What is the pasta-to-water ratio for Instant Pot?

A good rule is enough liquid to fully hydrate the pasta—typically around 4 cups of liquid for 12 ounces of spaghetti when combined with sauce. Different pasta shapes may require slight adjustments.

How do you cook spaghetti in an Instant Pot without sauce?

Place dry spaghetti in the Instant Pot, cover it with water, and cook on High Pressure using the pasta timing formula (about half the package cooking time, rounded down). Quick release the pressure and drain any excess water before adding your favorite sauce.
