How to Make Caramel Chocolate Chip Muffins

  1. Mix the dry ingredients together.
  2. Whisk the wet ingredients until smooth.
  3. Combine the wet and dry ingredients, stirring just until incorporated.
  4. Fold in the chocolate chips and chopped caramel pieces.
  5. Divide the batter into a prepared muffin pan.
  6. Bake until the tops are golden and a toothpick inserted into the muffin (avoiding the caramel) comes out clean.
  7. Let cool slightly before serving so the caramel has a chance to set.

Recipe Variations

Try putting your own spin on these easy caramel muffins:

  • Swap the milk chocolate chips for dark or semi-sweet chocolate.
  • Sprinkle coarse sea salt on top before baking for salted caramel muffins.
  • Use mini chocolate chips for chocolate in every bite.
  • Stir chopped pecans or walnuts into the batter for extra crunch.
  • Add a pinch of cinnamon for warm fall flavor.
Can I use caramel bits instead of caramel candies?

Yes! Caramel baking bits work well and are easier to mix into the batter than chopped caramel candies.

Why did my caramel sink to the bottom?

Large pieces of caramel can sink while baking. Cutting them into smaller pieces and lightly coating them with flour helps keep them suspended in the batter.

Can I freeze caramel muffins?

Absolutely! Wrap the muffins individually or store them in a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months.

  • 2 large eggs at room temperature

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°.

  • Do the same with the caramel bits but add 1-2 teaspoons of water instead of cream.
  • Using a small spoon, drizzle the melted chocolate over the muffins. Repeat with the caramel but do so in the opposite direction.
