  • Chill the cupcakes before decorating. Cold cupcakes are easier to pipe on and will help the buttercream hold its shape.
  • Whip up a batch of vanilla buttercream, tint it with yellow food coloring, and transfer it to a piping bag fitted with a leaf tip.
  • Place a mini Oreo in the center of each cupcake. If you don’t have mini Oreos, try chocolate chips, brown M&Ms, or a swirl of chocolate frosting.
  • Then pipe yellow frosting petals outward from the cookie to the cupcake’s edge.

    Ingredients

    • 1 box yellow cake mix & water eggs, oil per box directions
    • Vanilla Classic Buttercream
    • Yellow food coloring
    • Mini Oreo cookies

    Instructions

    • Bake cupcakes per recipe in a cupcake pan and cool completely on a wire rack.
    • In a large bowl, make the frosting using an electric mixer. 
    • Mix in yellow food coloring until the frosting reaches a deep yellow color 
    • Place frosting in a piping bag with a Wilton Tip #70 (leaf tip) to make the petals 
    • Place a small dab of frosting directly in the center of the cupcake and place the mini Oreo on top of each cupcake. 
    • Pipe petal layers from the cookie towards the outer edge of the cupcakes. 
    • Continue with remaining cupcakes. 

    Notes

    Store the decorated cupcakes in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. If you’re in a warmer climate or the cupcakes have a perishable filling, you may need to store them in the fridge.
