Sunflower Cupcakes Recipe

These Sunflower Cupcakes are the perfect dessert for any celebration. With yellow buttercream petals and a mini Oreo center, they look like little edible sunflowers that are sure to impress.

Ingredients

  • 1 box yellow cake mix & water eggs, oil per box directions
  • Vanilla Classic Buttercream
  • Yellow food coloring
  • Mini Oreo cookies

Instructions

  1. Bake cupcakes per recipe in a cupcake pan and cool completely on a wire rack.
  2. In a large bowl, make the frosting using an electric mixer. 
  3. Mix in yellow food coloring until the frosting reaches a deep yellow color 
  4. Place frosting in a piping bag with a Wilton Tip #70 (leaf tip) to make the petals 
  5. Place a small dab of frosting directly in the center of the cupcake and place the mini Oreo on top of each cupcake. 
  6. Pipe petal layers from the cookie towards the outer edge of the cupcakes. 
  7. Continue with remaining cupcakes. 

Recipe Notes

Store the decorated cupcakes in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. If you're in a warmer climate or the cupcakes have a perishable filling, you may need to store them in the fridge.
