You’ll need to fry up some crispy bacon bits and then quickly sear seasoned chicken thighs until golden. You’ll want to use chicken thighs for the best flavor. They stay juicier and more tender than chicken breasts, especially after baking.
Then you’ll spread the chicken in a baking dish, whip up a quick ranch-flavored cream cheese mixture, and slather it right over the top.
Sprinkle on the bacon and a good handful of shredded cheese. Cheddar, mozzarella, Monterey Jack, or a blend all work deliciously — go with what you have!
Finally, bake until everything’s bubbling and delicious.
Chicken pairs well with a lot of cheeses, depending on the flavor you want. Cheddar, mozzarella, and Monterey Jack are great for melty, comforting dishes, while Parmesan and Swiss add a nutty, savory touch.
Yes! Just be careful not to overcook them — chicken breasts tend to dry out faster than thighs.
Definitely! You can assemble it completely, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate until you’re ready to bake.
You can freeze the assembled (but unbaked) casserole for up to 2 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge before baking.
Yes! Just season the chicken, spread the ranch cream cheese mixture on top, and cook on low for 4–5 hours or high for 2–3 hours. About 30 minutes before it’s done, sprinkle on the bacon and shredded cheese, then let it melt before serving.

Sounds delicious, but where does the shredded chicken come from? It doesn’t say anything about shredded chicken at first. You only talk about frying the thighs and place in casserole dish.Did I miss something. Would try this!
Thank you so much for seeing that typo!!! It is actually supposed to say shredded cheese!
Love the recipe, but had to guess at what to bake it at.,,????
my apologies, the post has been updated.
My whole family loves this dish! Two things I do differently: 1) I brown the chicken in my cast iron skillet so I can pop it right in the oven instead of transferring to a baking dish, 2) I stir the cream cheese, ranch dressing mix, bacon, and cheddar all together and then spread a blob of it on each piece of chicken. I think it’s easier and comes out just as amazing. Thanks for a great recipe!
Thanks for sharing your tips!!!
