There’s nothing worse then baking a delicious cake and then in trying to remove the cake from the pan, the entire thing is crumbly or broken. I’ve been baking cakes for a long time and broken cakes just leave you feeling sad and defeated every time. I swear that bundt cake pan gets me everytime! Professional bakers use this miracle pan release everytime they bake and it is my top tip for any baker to use!

The best part about making this homemade cake release is that there no chemical fumes or sticky residue from the cooking spray. This “cake goop” as some call it, is made with simple ingredients that most people have right in their pantry.

One of the parts I hate about baking is “preparing” your pan, whether it’s with parchment paper, the light dusting of flour, etc. Often times, if you live in a humid area or hot area, you will have the cake stick no matter what you do it seems.

Use equal quantities of oil and shortening and mix together. You can mix together by hand in a mixing bowl with a spatula or use your electric mixer, either way it’s a two step process.

How to Use Your Cake Release

Use a silicone pastry brush, use a generous amount of your release to make a thin layer to your cake pans. I like to use silicone because I often find that brush bristles often stick.

You will want to get the sides of the pan, the bottom of the pan, the edges of your pans and all of the crevices of the cake pan.

Then pour your cake batter and bake as instructed.

When you cake is done baking, let it cool for 5-10 minutes on a wire rack or cooling rack, then release your cake as usual.

What kind of pans can I use this recipe on?

Use this on any type of baking pan or when a recipe calls for non-stick cooking spray: bundt pans, loaf pans, etc.

How long does this Cake Release Recipe last?

Your homemade pan release has a shelf life of 3 to 4 months. Store at room temperature.
