Next week was my daughter (my baby) is turning 10. A whole decade, two whole hands. I can’t believe it. I love making birthdays extra special for my kids.

You don’t have to make intricate, complicated recipes to make something special. These Cake Mix Whoopie Pies are easy and fun to make. I bet your kids will even have fun making them with you!

I usually make a chocolate cake for my kids, but this year I decided to do something different.

These whoopie pies are festive and actually really very versatile.

These cake like treats have a fluffy homemade marshmallow frosting in the center.

The best part about these whoopie pies is that everyone will think you did a ton of work to get them on the table, making them great for bake sales when the kids volunteer you. Don’t you love recipes like that?

The classic whoopie pie is a New England phenomenon and the first time I had one we were on a getaway to Pennsylvania, it was a chocolate whoopie pie. These sweet treats quickly became one of my new favorite things. Traditional Whoopie Pies are a sandwich cookie shaped into round mounds with a creamy filling.

This is just one more perfect way to use a box cake mix, giving you the extra time to do things you love. And another one of the great recipes to come off of social media these days.

Your soft cake-like cookies will be perfect with a big glass of milk.

Using a small cookie scoop or a small ice cream scoop, scoop even balls of the cookie dough and drop batter onto prepared baking sheets. You will want to leave about 2 inches between each ball of dough so it has room to expand, that is why we are using a small scoop.

  • If the icing doesn’t fall in a ribbon pattern, add a teaspoon of water to loosen it up a bit.
  • Avoid a wax coated sprinkle for this dessert. It will make for a better mouth feel.
  • Let’s settle a debate: Are Whoopie Pies Cookies or Cake? They’re a little bit of both! They’re soft and fluffy like a cake, but is like biting into a homemade cookie.
