No Bake Cake Balls

No Bake Cake Balls are the ultimate shortcut dessert recipe when you want something sweet, impressive, and stress-free—without ever turning on the oven.

They’re soft, truffle-like bites made by mixing cake crumbs with a rich, creamy filling, then rolling and dipping them in a smooth chocolate coating.

The result is a poppable treat that tastes like cake and frosting combined into one irresistible bite.

Everything comes together in one bowl, and after a short chill, they’re ready to dip and decorate.

They’re ideal for holidays, parties, bake sales, or edible gifts because they’re easy to make ahead and travel well.

How to Make Cake Balls

  • Start by creaming together softened, room temperature butter (to help the mixture blend without lumps) and sugar until it’s smooth.
  • Mix in the dry cake mix, flour, vanilla, salt, and milk, then blend until a thick, dough-like mixture forms.
  • Fold in the colorful sprinkles to add a fun pop of color!

  • Once the mixture is ready, roll it into small balls using a small cookie scoop and place them on a lined baking sheet.
  • Chill the rolled balls before dipping until they’re firm so they hold their shape in the melted chocolate.
  • Melt the white chocolate chips and dip each ball until fully coated. Tap off excess chocolate after dipping for a smoother finish.
  • Let them set until the chocolate hardens, and they’re ready to serve or store for later.

How do you get perfectly round cake balls?

Use a small cookie scoop to portion the mixture evenly, then roll gently between your palms until smooth. If the dough feels too soft, chill it for 10–15 minutes before rolling so it holds its shape better. Chilling the balls again before dipping also helps them stay round.

Why are my cake balls falling apart?

This usually means the mixture is too dry or too warm. If it’s crumbly, add a small amount of milk and mix until it holds together easily. If it’s too soft, refrigerate the dough or the rolled balls before dipping to help them firm up and stay intact.

Do cake balls need to be refrigerated?

Yes. Store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator to keep them firm and fresh.

Can I freeze cake balls?

Yes. Freeze them in a single layer, then transfer to a freezer-safe container for up to 2 months. Thaw in the refrigerator before serving.
