How to Make Cake Balls
- Start by creaming together softened, room temperature butter (to help the mixture blend without lumps) and sugar until it’s smooth.
- Mix in the dry cake mix, flour, vanilla, salt, and milk, then blend until a thick, dough-like mixture forms.
- Fold in the colorful sprinkles to add a fun pop of color!

- Once the mixture is ready, roll it into small balls using a small cookie scoop and place them on a lined baking sheet.
- Chill the rolled balls before dipping until they’re firm so they hold their shape in the melted chocolate.
- Melt the white chocolate chips and dip each ball until fully coated. Tap off excess chocolate after dipping for a smoother finish.
- Let them set until the chocolate hardens, and they’re ready to serve or store for later.

Cake Ball Decorating Ideas

- Switch up the chocolate coating to match your flavor or theme, including white, milk, dark chocolate, or candy melts.
- Decorate with seasonal sprinkles, sanding sugar, or drizzle colors to fit any holiday or celebration.
- Customize them for birthdays, baby showers, school events, or themed parties with coordinating colors and toppings.
- These cake balls are easy to adapt year-round, making them a great go-to dessert for every season.
- If you’d like to turn them into cake pops, insert a stick into each chilled cake ball after dipping the tip of the stick in melted chocolate, then let it set before fully coating and decorating.

Use a small cookie scoop to portion the mixture evenly, then roll gently between your palms until smooth. If the dough feels too soft, chill it for 10–15 minutes before rolling so it holds its shape better. Chilling the balls again before dipping also helps them stay round.
This usually means the mixture is too dry or too warm. If it’s crumbly, add a small amount of milk and mix until it holds together easily. If it’s too soft, refrigerate the dough or the rolled balls before dipping to help them firm up and stay intact.
