How to Make Wafer Pencil Cookies for the Kids!

  1. Start by grabbing some of your favorite wafer cookies and use a paring or serrated knife for clean cuts. They give you more control and reduces the risk of the wafer breaking when shaping the pencil tip.
  2. Trace the cut tip with white cookie icing. Don’t squeeze the icing too hard. A steady hand and light pressure will help you outline and decorate more neatly.
  3. Place a mini chocolate chip at the end to make the pencil lead.
  4. Finally, use pink icing on the opposite end to create a cute eraser.
  5. Set the cookies on parchment paper to let the icing dry. Give them at least 30–60 minutes to avoid smudging when storing or serving.

You can prep these a day in advance—just be sure to store them in a cool, dry place so the icing doesn’t melt.

What kind of icing works best?

Cookie icing or gel-style decorating icing works best because it sets firmly and doesn’t run. Brands like Wilton or Betty Crocker in tubes are great for kids to use too!

Can I make these with my kids?

Absolutely! Older kids can help with trimming and decorating, while younger ones can place the chocolate chips or pick icing colors.
