What is a Danish?
A Danish pastry is a sweet, flaky pastry that originated in Denmark. While there are various types and flavors of Danish pastries, the classic Danish typically consists of a buttery dough that is layered and folded to create a light and airy texture.
They can come in various shapes, including a spiral, braid, or simply folded over. Danish pastries can be enjoyed as a delightful snack anytime you’re craving something sweet and satisfying.
What’s in a Danish?
A simple Danish recipe is often filled with a variety of delicious fillings such as fruit preserves or a cream cheese flavor. Danish pastries are often topped with a glaze, icing, or sprinkled with powdered sugar.
Some popular Danish variations include apple, cherry, blueberry, and cheese. A few of my favorite things to use are:
- A teaspoon jam or preserves (strawberry, apricot, raspberry, blueberry, blackberry)
- A mixture of cream cheese and jam or preserves
- Nutella
- Use different fruits such as apple pie filling to make air fryer apple danish or a sweet cherry pie filling for an air fryer cherry danish.
- Cheesecake filling (cream cheese filling, sugar, vanilla extract) makes a cream cheese danish

Yes, you can reheat leftover pastries in the air fryer. Place them in the air fryer for a few minutes at a lower temperature to warm them up and restore their crispiness. Be careful not to overcook them, as they can become too dry.
