How to Make Mermaid Cupcakes
- Start by preparing your favorite cake mix and baking the cupcakes according to the package directions.
- Once baked, let them cool completely so the frosting goes on smoothly.
- While the cupcakes cool, make a batch of vanilla buttercream and tint it with teal food coloring, adding a little at a time until you reach the perfect ocean-inspired shade.
- Pipe the frosting onto the cupcakes using a star tip, then finish with mermaid sprinkles, sugar pearls, or a light dusting of edible shimmer for a magical touch.

- For the mermaid tails, melt chocolate or candy melts in short intervals until smooth, then pour the mixture into a mermaid tail silicone mold.
- After tapping the mold to remove air bubbles, chill until fully set.
- Carefully remove the tails, decorate with edible glitter if desired, and let them dry.
- Once ready, gently insert the mermaid tails into the frosted cupcakes at an angle to create a whimsical, under-the-sea look that brings the whole dessert together.
