Applesauce Ornaments FAQs

How long do applesauce cinnamon ornaments last?

Your easy homemade cinnamon ornaments will last a long time. Place ornaments in a cool, dry place, wrapped in tissue paper

How do you keep cinnamon ornaments from breaking?

To keep cinnamon ornaments from breaking, it’s essential to start with the right consistency of dough, making sure it’s not too thin.

  • Roll the dough evenly to a thickness of around 1/4 inch, avoiding excessive thinness.
  • Ensure the ornaments dry thoroughly for 24-48 hours, handle them gently during cutting and decorating, and create a sturdy hole for hanging.
  • When storing the ornaments, protect them from dust and potential breakage by using airtight containers or sealable bags.
  • In areas with high humidity, take extra precautions to keep them dry and intact, and if an ornament develops a crack, non-toxic glue can be used for repairs.

Can you put Modge Podge on cinnamon ornaments?

Applying Mod Podge to cinnamon dough ornaments is generally not recommended. Mod Podge is a water-based adhesive and sealer, and it can soften and potentially damage cinnamon ornaments over time. The moisture in Mod Podge may affect the structural integrity of the ornaments, leading to warping, cracking, or molding.

If you wish to seal or protect your cinnamon ornaments, it’s better to use an alternative sealant or clear acrylic spray, which is less likely to introduce moisture and is specifically designed for preserving craft projects. These sealants can provide a protective coating without compromising the integrity of the ornaments, allowing them to maintain their shape and fragrance.

Can you paint cinnamon applesauce ornaments?

You can indeed paint cinnamon applesauce ornaments to add color and personalized designs to your holiday decorations.

  • To get started, make sure the ornaments are completely dry, then use water-based acrylic craft paint. Protect your work surface and apply the paint with brushes, allowing each coat to dry thoroughly before adding more layers. For intricate details, use smaller brushes.
  • Once you’re satisfied with your painted ornaments, allow them to dry completely, and if desired, seal the paint with a clear acrylic sealer spray to protect the design.

How do you preserve applesauce cinnamon ornaments?

To preserve applesauce cinnamon ornaments and keep them fresh and fragrant, follow these steps:

  • After the ornaments have thoroughly dried, apply a coat of clear acrylic sealer spray to protect and preserve them. This will help maintain their fragrance and prevent them from absorbing moisture.
  • Place the preserved ornaments in a cool, dry location when they are not in use. Avoid storing them in humid or damp areas to prevent any softening or molding.
  • If possible, store the ornaments in airtight containers or sealable bags to protect them from dust and humidity. This additional layer of protection can help extend their lifespan.
  • When taking the ornaments out for use or decoration, handle them gently to avoid breakage. Store them carefully to prevent any damage.
  • By sealing them with acrylic spray and storing them properly in dry conditions, you can preserve the delightful scent and appearance of your applesauce cinnamon ornaments for years to come.

Do applesauce cinnamon ornaments go bad?

Applesauce cinnamon ornaments don’t go “bad” like perishable foods but can experience changes over time. The delightful cinnamon-apple scent may fade, and the ornaments may become brittle if exposed to humidity. In very humid conditions, there’s a slight risk of mold growth.

To preserve them, store in a cool, dry place, seal with clear acrylic spray, and handle with care. With proper care, these ornaments can remain charming holiday decorations for years, although they may change in fragrance and texture over time.

Not a stupid question since these ornaments ARE made with edible ingredients. But, I really don't think they would be edible with the amount of cinnamon in them.
