Use round, thinly sliced salami or similar deli meat slices. Thicker slices won’t hold as well and may make the rose bulky. Try making roses with other types of round deli meat, such as pepperoni or prosciutto, for a mix of textures and colors on your board.

Wine glasses with a thin rim work best, as the slices hold better when pressed tightly against the glass edge. Smaller glasses are ideal for creating petite roses, while larger ones are great for bigger, more dramatic roses.

Start with round slices of salami and layer them around the rim of a wine glass to form a stunning rose shape. Start with fewer slices in the first layer (e.g., 3-4), overlapping each slightly, then add more as you go to create a full rose effect. This layering technique builds structure and gives the rose a natural, blooming look.

Stack each layer slightly overlapping the previous one, adding more slices as you build out each row to give the rose volume.

As you add layers, press the salami slices snugly onto the glass rim to keep them in place. This makes for a tight, cohesive rose that won’t fall apart when flipped.

Once your desired size is achieved, flip the rose onto your serving board only when you’re ready to serve, as this keeps the rose shape intact.

Place your meat roses on your charcuterie boards last for the freshest presentation.

Add small clusters of cheese, nuts, fruits, or crackers around each rose to create a balanced, visually appealing layout.

Can salami roses be made ahead of time?

Yes! Prepare the roses in a wine glass and keep them in the fridge until ready to serve. When you’re ready to add them to the board, carefully flip them onto the presentation board. Store the roses in the glass in the fridge, covered, to keep them fresh and well-shaped.

How many slices of salami does it take to make a rose?

For a small rose, around 12 pieces of salami is usually enough. If you want a fuller, more dramatic rose, aim for 20 slices or more. Layering more slices adds volume and gives the rose a more “bloomed” appearance.

How do you get salami roses to stay together?

Press each salami slice tightly against the rim of the glass as you layer. This keeps the slices firmly in place. Chill the glass and salami layers briefly before flipping, as this helps set the shape. When you flip the rose onto your serving board, leave the glass on until you’re ready to display it, which also helps it stay intact.

Why do my salami roses fall apart?

It may be due to using too few layers or not pressing the slices tightly enough onto the glass. Overly thick slices or uneven layers can also make the rose loose. Try chilling the assembled rose in the glass for a few minutes before flipping to help it hold its shape.

Ingredients

  • Round deli meat
  • Assorted Crackers or breads
  • Fruit of choice
  • Pre sliced gourmet cheeses
  • Assorted nuts and other fruits optional
  • Condiments Mayo, mustard, etc optional

Instructions

  1. Layer the circles of meat on top of one another with the first layer having the least amount of slices. For example, my first layer only has three pieces of meat that are overlapping one another.
  2. Layer the second row of meat in between the three that were laid out before where you will end up with about five pieces of meat overlapping.
  3. The third, fourth, fifth or six layer will continue the same process until you have the desired size of a rose.
  4. Flip the wine glass and meat over onto your presentation board.
  5. Leave the glass in place until you are ready to display your finished presentation.

Recipe Notes

  • This presentation will not work with any deli meat that is not cut into a circle.
We tested square as well as sliced deli meat neither would hold its shape as well as the circled meat would.
  • When the slices of meat are pulled out of the flower it does not fall apart it will continue to hold its shape until all of the meat is off the board.
  • When creating your board remember to add layers of crackers, cheese, meats, fruits, and nuts if you would like in order to offer a variety of things on your platter
