This recipe is an inexpensive alternative to store-bought treats.
Whether you’re using them for training rewards or just because you love your dog, this special treat will be sure to wag some tails.
Always use unsweetened applesauce to avoid added sugars, which can be harmful to your dog. If you’re making your own applesauce, leave out sugar and spices like cinnamon, which can also be risky for some dogs.

For a fun touch, use dog-themed cookie cutters or silicone molds to create shapes your dog will love. Smaller treats are great for training.

If your dog prefers crunchy treats, bake them a bit longer, keeping an eye on them so they don’t burn. For softer treats, reduce the cooking time slightly.

Store the homemade treats in a sealed container for up to a week, or freeze them to make them last longer. When frozen, they can stay fresh for up to three months.

Yes, peanut butter is a great add-in for flavor. Just be sure to use one that doesn’t contain xylitol, as it’s toxic to dogs.
If the dough is too sticky to work with, gradually add flour until it’s easy to roll out and cut. Be sure not to add too much at once, as it could make the treats too dry.
