Snickerdoodle Cookies Recipe Without Cream of Tartar

These snickerdoodles without cream of tartar are rolled in cinnamon sugar and baked until lightly golden. A simple homemade cookie for holiday trays, food gifts, or an everyday treat.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cup sugar
  • ½ cup vegetable shortening
  • ½ cup margarine or butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 and 3/4 cup flour
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 3 tsp cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Cream together sugar, shortening, margarine/butter and eggs in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Slowly add in the flour until well combined.
  4. Form 1 and 1/4 inch balls, roll in cinnamon sugar mixture, and place on a parchment lined cookie sheet.
  5. Bake snickerdoodle cookies for 8-10 minutes until cookies are light brown.
  6. Let them sit on the sheet for 3-4 minutes then cool on wire racks.
  7. These snickerdoodle cookies are best to taste when warm.

Recipe Notes

To store: allow the cookies to cool completely, then store them in an airtight container at room temperature. If you’re packaging them as gifts, wait until they’re fully cooled before putting them into bags or cookie tins.
