How to Make Unicorn Cupcakes

Unicorn cupcakes are the ultimate party treat—whimsical, colorful, and surprisingly easy to decorate!

Ingredients

  • Prebaked cupcakes
  • White frosting + gel colors

Instructions

  1. Bake your favorite cupcakes
  2. Cool cupcakes completely to room temperature on a wire rack before decorating.
  3. When making your cupcakes, use a large cookie scoop to scoop batter into the muffin tin so they are all uniform in size. 
  4. Make your buttercream frosting in a large bowl. 
  5. Divide your white frosting into separate bowls and tint them with various colors using gel-based food coloring. 
  6. Add the colored icing to the 12 inch piping bags without a coupler or tip.
  7. Snip the ends of the tips and set aside.
  8. Place a 1M or 2D Piping tip inside of the 16 inch piping bag.
  9. The tip should be pushed down as far as it can go end it should be cut right underneath the teeth
  10. of the tip. You do not want icing caught on the side of the piping bag.
  11. Place the colored bags of icing inside of the 16 inch bag and push them all down so that each of
  12. the colors is inside of the tip.
  13. Keep your cupcakes on a flat surface while you are icing them.
  14. Squeeze with even pressure to make sure that all three colors are coming out together onto the top of the cupcakes. 
  15. Open up your unicorn cupcake kit.
  16. Place the Unicorn Wrappers around the cupcake liners before icing.
  17. Pipe swirls or rosettes around the top of each cupcake to create the unicorn's colorful mane.
  18. In the center of a cupcake, add the unicorn decorations to these adorable cupcakes.
  19. Get creative with additional decorations like edible glitter, rainbow sprinkles, or fondant flowers to enhance the unicorn cupcakes' whimsical appearance.
  20. Allow the decorated cupcakes to set for a little while to ensure that the frosting and decorations stay in place.
  21. Keep your easy unicorn cupcakes in the refrigerator until you are ready to serve them to keep the frosting staying stiff. You can keep any leftover cupcakes in an airtight container or cupcake tin to stay fresh for 3-4 days.

Do not use more than three colors as they may not fit inside of the tip of the 16 inch bag.

Let the frosting set for a bit before serving, and refrigerate the cupcakes to keep them picture-perfect. Leftovers? Store them in an airtight container and enjoy the magic for up to 3–4 days.
