Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons room temperature unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/3 cups All-Purpose Flour scooped and leveled
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup powdered sugar plus 3-4 tbsp water or milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F. Lightly grease two silicon mats or standard donut pans.
  2. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, beat together the butter, vegetable oil, and sugars until smooth.
  3. Add the eggs and vanilla, beating to combine.
  4. Stir in the baking powder, baking soda, nutmeg, salt.
  5. Add the flour into the batter, alternately with the milk, making sure everything is thoroughly combined. The batter will be thick.
  6. Divide the batter into 3 seperate bowls to add food coloring. Stir to combine.
  7. Pipe or Spoon the batter into the lightly greased doughnut pans, filling the wells to about 1/4" shy of the rim.
  8. Bake for 10 minutes. Remove them from the oven, and wait 5 to 7 minutes before turning them out of the pans onto a rack.
  9. In a medium bowl, make the glaze with the milk and powdered sugar.
  10. Separate into bowls to add food coloring. Combine well.
  11. Dip the tops of the donuts into the glaze or drizzle over the donuts.
  12. Add sprinkles.

Recipe Notes

To store homemade donuts, let them cool completely, then place them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Avoid refrigerating them, as that can dry them out. If you want to keep them longer, freeze unfrosted donuts wrapped in plastic wrap and store them in a freezer-safe bag for up to 2 months. Thaw at room temp and glaze when ready to serve!
