Ingredients

  • 1 cup and 2 tablespoons warm water
  • 1 ¼ teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons white granulated sugar
  • 3 cups bread flour
  • 1 ¾ teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • Topping
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 2 tablespoons parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, add the sugar and yeast to the warm water and stir together.
  2. Let sit for 10 minutes until the yeast has activated, the mixture will look puffy and bubbly
  3. Add in half the flour to the yeast mixture and stir together.
  4. Add the other half of the flour and combine until a dough ball has formed.
  5. Transfer this to a clean surface and knead the dough together for about 5 minutes
  6. Place in a greased bowl and cover with plastic wrap or a clean kitchen towel. Let sit in a room temperature area for a rise time of 1 ½ hours.
  7. The dough should have almost doubled in size. Punch down the dough and divide dough into 12 equal portions.
  8. Roll each portion on a lightly floured surface out into about 8 inch sized breadsticks and lay on a parchment paper covered baking sheet.
  9. Once you have rolled out each dough portion, cover these breadsticks with plastic wrap and let rest for another hour for a second rise.
  10. At the last ten minutes of rising, preheat the oven to 425 degrees fahrenheit.
  11. Place bread sticks in the oven for 15 minutes or until the tops of the breadsticks are golden brown.
  12. While the sticks are in the oven, melt the butter and mix together the garlic salt and parmesan together in a small bowl.
  13. As soon as the breadsticks are out of the oven, brush the top of the breadsticks with the melted butter and sprinkle the garlic parmesan mixture on top.
  14. Enjoy warm breadsticks.

Recipe Notes

Keep cooled breadsticks in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. For longer storage, freeze and reheat before serving.
