Gingerbread Cookies

Classic Gingerbread cookie recipe, perfect for Christmas!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 1 1/2 cups molasses
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 7 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp cloves
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Frosting
  • Decorations

Instructions

  1. Beat brown sugar, molasses, milk and shortening together until well blended.
  2. Stir in remaining ingredients.
  3. Cover and refrigerate for a minimum of 2 hours.
  4. Preheat oven to 350 degrees when ready to bake.
  5. Prepare a baking sheet with shortening or cooking spray.
  6. On a floured surface, roll out the dough to 1/4 inch thick.
  7. Cut out gingerbread with a cookie cutter and place 2 inches apart on cookie sheet.
  8. Bake 10-12 minutes
  9. Cool for about 30 minutes on a cooling rack.
