A few weekends ago, my family did something completely new to us: snow tubing at Shawnee Mountain in the Poconos. It seems that the Poconos are my go-to for doing things completely out of my comfort zone! Water parks, ATV riding, and now snow tubing.
What You Need to Know About Snow Tubing at Shawnee
The best part of snow tubing is that it is something the whole family can do! Whether you are 6 or 60! There were even little babies maybe 2 or going down the mountain with their families.
Shawnee has single and double tubes. We found it easier to each just take a single tube and then hold on to to each other versus lugging the heavy double tubes up the mountain.
Dress in layers! The day we went it was over 40 degrees and the kids were melting in all of their layers. Thankfully, less layers made everyone happy! Remember, even though there is a conveyor belt to help you up the mountain, you still need to get to the conveyor belt with your tube in tow.
Book in advance. We thought the tubing hill was going to be packed, but thankfully because Shawnee only lets a limited number of people per session, it wasn’t too crowded at all!
I crammed everything into my coat pockets, but next time I would bring a small cinch sak to keep my personal belongings and maybe even a few snacks and a bottle of water.
Think about going on a warmer day. The day we went was so beautiful out! If your kids are a little unsure about tubing, a warmer day is perfect since the hills are a little melty and you don’t go as fast.
Bring some goggles or even wear sun glasses. It does get pretty bright on the slopes and with the wind of going down the hill right at your face, it could make the kids a little upset.
We did the 2 hour session and felt like it was just enough. We had enough time to get from the entrance up to the tubing hill and still had our fair share of tubing!
Of course, with all of the gear we had and the mountainous roads of the Poconos, we needed a good SUV to get us to our snow tubing adventure. Thank goodness for the Mitsubishi Outlander!
In my opinion, the Outlander is the most affordable 7 passenger SUVs on the market. Mitsubishi took everything into consideration to put a safe and good looking car on the road! The Outlander has a very luxurious feel to it. I absolutely loved the way it hugged the roads. And let me tell you, we went through some windy back roads that had me a little nervous!
One of our favorite safety features was the 360 degree back up camera. Not only are you able to see behind you, you are able to see all around you! I would be remiss if I forgot to mention the awesome gas mileage the Mitsubishi Outlander has!
Between the space, gas mileage and safety features, the 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander has me considering making a purchase for myself!
*Thank you to Mitsubishi for loaning me the 2019 Outlander for this review.
