Maleficent Cupcakes Recipe

Delicious homemade and unique purple velvet cupcakes inspired by the infamous Disney villain, Maleficent.

We made these delicious Maleficent Inspired Cupcakes. If you love red velvet, you will want to enjoy these purple velvet cupcakes. 

While everyone loves those sweet Disney characters, let’s take a moment to give the villains some love too.

Maleficent is clearly my favorite Disney villain, how about you?

How to Make these Maleficent Cupcakes:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. 

Line a muffin tin with cupcake liners. 

In a large bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda and salt. 

In a small bowl, cream together butter, vanilla extract, eggs, and sugar. 

Add wet ingredients to the dry ingredients. Add in buttermilk. 

Mix together.

Fold in 2-3 drops of purple food coloring. 

Fill the cupcake liners with batter about 2/3 full. Bake for about 10-12 minutes or until the centers come out clean when poked with a toothpick. 

For the frosting, I like to use a simple vanilla buttercream frosting, tinted with purple food coloring.

  • 1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons cocoa powder
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • 2-3 drops purple food coloring teaspoons liquid purple food coloring (or use 1 teaspoon gel coloring)
