Help your child learn their manners by having a tea party and with this new book by James Patterson and Bill O’Reilly, Give Please a Chance.
This post is sponsored by Jimmy Patterson Books, but all opinions are my own and have not been influenced in anyway. #GivePleaseAChance
Lately, we’ve been having some issues with manners in my house. I am not strict by any means, but I find manners and respect to be very important. Just telling the kids to say please and thank you was not enough. They really need to put it into action. A tea party was just the thing! I felt like the same manners from a tea party can be used at parties and get togethers with family and friends.
Of course, a tea party requires you to look your best!
Next, it’s time to learn proper etiquette!
Guests should stand behind their chairs and wait for their host pull out her chair to sit down.
The host pours her guests tea.
Guests should say “please” and “thank you” when asking for a cup of tea.
They should keep their hands folded in their laps when they aren’t drinking or eating. Of course, elbows never go on the table!
When drinking their tea, tea party guests should take small, careful sips. We don’t want any spills!
Guests should ask for plates of food be passed to them instead of reaching across the table. And of course, never eat with their mouths open.
As my children are growing older and becoming more aware of certain topics, I am often faced with embarrassment when they speak in public about these topics like bodily functions and the like. So, it’s important for tea party guests to understand that this is highly inappropriate to speak about during the tea party.
Another great way to help children learn their manners is with books.
One of my new favorites is Give Please A Chance, a picture book from James Patterson and Bill O’Reilly.
In this inspired collaboration, bestselling authors Bill O’Reilly and James Patterson remind us all that a single word—”Please?”—is useful in a thousand different ways. From finding a lovable stray dog to needing a partner on a seesaw, from reading a bedtime story to really, really needing a cookie, Give Please a Chance depicts scenes and situations in which one small word can move mountains. With a vivid array of illustrations by seventeen different artists, this charming, helpful book is a fun and memorable way for children to learn the magic power of one simple word: please.

make it a game and work it into your tv viewing – look for people who are using manner and point it out and look for others who are not – You just need to keep up with it and make sure to comment on how you liked how they used good manners when you catch them doing it
