I did not have fish and chips until I met my husband many years ago. As an avid fisherman, this was his go-to after a fresh catch! As the years wore on, I learned how to make his beloved recipe for Homemade Beer Battered Fish and Chips!
Homemade Beer Battered Fish and Chips
When fresh fish isn’t available, a simple white fish works great. We absolutely loveMcCain® brand products to serve with our fish and chips! The McCain® Craft Beer Battered Thin Cut Fries or the McCain® Seasoned Curly Fries Seasoned Potato Fries are my go-to’s for this recipe!
McCain products are made with real potatoes and until 5/31/19, you can get $1.50 off when you purchase 2 participating McCain products at Walmart. You can submit your rebate & learn more details here! The timing couldn’t be anymore perfect to pair McCain products with your game day spread!
I hope you will make our Homemade Beer Battered Fish and Chips recipe with your friends and family!
To get started, in a deep bowl combine flour, paprika, salt and pepper. In another bowl, whisk up an egg and a can of beer together. Coat the fish fillets in the flour, shake off and then dip into the beer batter.
A tip I learned many years ago was to let your fish sit in the refrigerator for 30-60 minutes. It really helps the batter stay on your fish! When you are ready to cook your filets, heat oil in a heavy pan and then fry the filets until they are golden brown, turning once.
Drain your fish on a plate coated with paper towels. While they are fresh from the pan, drizzle with lemon juice, salt and pepper.
We make homemade tartar sauce to go with this recipe. It’s so easy! Just mix together mayonnaise and sweet chopped relish! McCain® products have a crispy exterior for a satisfying crunch with every bite and are great for dipping!
