First and foremost, your car needs a good once over before you head out on the road. I am talking not just an oil change. Have a your local mechanic check all of your fluids, your tires, brakes, windshield wipers, etc.
Next, this is the time to give your car the detailing it deserves. Start your road trip nice and fresh with all of the garbage cleaned out and the trunk cleared out to make room for your luggage, coolers, etc. I also like to add a few new garbage bags, wipes, and tissues.
If you have kids like I do, load up the phones and iPads with entertainment for the kids. Download new movies or television shows to watch. I also like to pick up new headphones for everyone to make sure there are no meltdowns over broken headphones. We also like to load up our phones with an awesome new driving playlist!
Check your route. We like to put in our end destination into google maps long before we leave and then go through the whole route. We are checking for construction, detours, typical traffic times, things to do along our route, good places to stop for the bathroom and where to eat.
Don’t wait to fuel up! I have done this one too many times. I think oh I have plenty of gas to get me to the next stop. And then we go miles and miles before the next one shows up. Causing major anxiety. If you are questioning whether you should fuel up, just do it. Also, check a website like AAA to estimate the gas expense your trip is going to take.
Fuel up yourself too! Especially if you are the driver, it is important to keep yourself hydrated and your body fueled up to keep you alert and awake. I keep a case of water in the trunk and then buy granola bars, trail mix, apples and bananas for snacks.
Give yourself more time than you need to explore. One of the best parts of a road trip is all of the new sites! Don’t be in such a hurry to get to your final destination. Check out a national park, a new playground, a national monument, a famous restaurant, etc. Chances are you probably won’t be that way again anytime soon.
Stick to a safe driving speed. Don’t push your car to the max. This isn’t the time to pretend you are in a race. Use the Uniden R7 radar detector to monitor your speed. The Uniden R7 can tracks up to four signals simultaneously for greater awareness as you drive and help you avoid speeding tickets with voice notification and MAX speed warning system y0u will be able to hear without taking your eyes off of the road. The large OLED display includes arrows that identify the direction of incoming threats and change color on a scale of green to red to indicate the signal’s strength.
