This coming year, one of my goals is to work more on my self-care. I’ve really let myself slip and little things that are pretty important to a well rounded person have added up to make me feel tired, stressed and unhealthy. Let’s be real, an unhealthy, stressed out mom is not a happy mom! I need to give my kids a positive example.

4 Ways I Am Working to Better Self Care This Year with Healthy Choice Power Bowls
Drinking more water.
It seems between 2-3pm is the hardest for me. I just want something sweet. Before I know it, the whole day is ruined because I gave in to my cravings. Instead of giving in, I am drinking a large glass of iced water. Throughout the day, I keep a water bottle handy and refill it to keep from getting dehydrated.
Get more sleep.
I tend to go lay in my bed and instead of going to sleep because I am tired, I scroll aimlessly through Instagram and Facebook. No more! I have been unplugging before bed and it has been making a difference in my sleep.
One of my major problems is that I do not plan ahead. I often find myself without healthy options at home to eat and no time to get to the store. I have been taking the time to plan ahead my meals and making sure my fridge is stocked. A lot of meals I found myself eating were carb heavy, leaving my body crashing.
I am loving this wellness planner. Even with all of the options we have now with apps that can track your food, steps, water, etc., I love writing everything down. There is something about writing something down that makes it feel final and binding.
Eating balanced & nutritious meals
Last fall I started a part-time job as an aide at one of our local schools. I work until 2p and then leave to get my own children from school just an hour later. This didn’t leave me very much time to prepare and eat lunch. Instead of not eating all day now and then binge eating when I get home, I pack myself a nutritious lunch everyday and heat it up in the faculty lounge.
I am loving the new Healthy Choice meals as a quick breakfast or lunch go-to! Their Healthy Choice Morning, as well as their line of vegan and vegetarian Power Bowls are nutrient-dense meals packed with quick, flavorful, well-balanced ingredients, including proteins, grains and leafy greens.
All of the ingredients in the Healthy Choice Power Bowls have a base mixture of whole grains, leafy greens and proteins.
For lunch, my favorite is the Cauliflower Curry Power Bowl. Its like enjoying take out! There’s lentils, cauliflower with chard, kale and spinach on top of a delicious bed of brown and red rice, red quinoa and black barley, finished with spicy curry sauce. The vegetarian and vegan bowls offer benefits like 10-16 grams of protein and 7-16 grams of fiber.
My day starts a lot more delicious now with meals like this Healthy Choice Morning Vegetarian Power Bowl: Pesto & Egg White Scramble. This is a Power Bowl if I ever saw one: egg whites with white kidney beans and vegetables served on top of steel cut oats, farro, buckwheat and red quinoa with a basil pesto sauce topped with parmesan cheese.
With nutritious benefits like 10-15 grams of proteins and 3-5 grams of fiber, the morning bowls are the perfect way to start your day and be ready for whatever awaits.
Even the bowls have ingredients that matter! Each serving bowl is made out of plant-based fiber that is recyclable!
