How to Create a Family Message Center to Help You Get Ready for Back to School
School is starting up soon and my youngest is going into Kindergarten. I won’t lie, I am already dreading getting two kids up and ready in the morning. My daughter does not like to get up and ready for the day, she likes to do things on her own schedule. I am trying to prepare now with a month to go to make sure back to school is not as stressful as I preparing for.
One of my biggest issues in the morning are making sure the kids eat a protein packed breakfast and finding everything they need for the day. Living in a condo, we don’t have a lot of space and I always have wanted a family message center. Creating one was a lot easier than I thought! Our hall closet had become a wasted space where things were just thrown in and never to return. After decluttering the closet, I had more than enough room in an originally un-thought of place in my home!
I created a space for the kids to have one central location to keep their backpacks, lunchboxes, reminders, and a calendar so they know what we are doing each day. We put our Family Message Center behind the door. The hooks are at a level where the kids can hang their own items up, helping them be more independent and responsible for their belongings!
Now that our mornings will be a lot more organized with everything in one place, I just had one more problem to solve: breakfast!
While I was shopping for our supplies for our Family Message Center at Walmart, I found these delicious looking LALA® Yogurt Smoothies!
Since we have such a hard time getting up, ready and out the door in the morning, LALA® Yogurt Smoothies seemed like the perfect on-the-go snack for our family to enjoy in the car as we drive to school. Plus, they’re made with real fruit and 5 grams of protein!
We’ve been pairing the LALA® Yogurt Smoothies with nuts to create a great on-the-go combo to fuel us up for a great day at school and on the go!

This is such a great idea! I love that it’s hidden and out of the way! I have to clean out one of our closets to create something similar! #client
We actually just put one of these up in our house! I’m glad great minds think alike, because this is a life-saver!
Thank goodness I have not gotten so busy with my family yet. I know what is coming and I love the way you have the set up.
Thanks so much for sharing this! It’s super cute, and a message center will definitely keep chaos to a minimum.
I can’t believe back to school is almost here. My girls will be starting at the end of the month. I love the space you have for your kids. I’m planning on moving about a month after my girls get ready for school, so once I move I want to do this space for my girls too!
We’re currently getting ready for the start of the school year by getting back into the school routine. That’s one of the best ways to get prepared.
It’s hard to believe that school will be starting in less than 3 weeks here. I haven’t even done my back to school shopping yet. I like the family message center idea.
This is a great idea! I can’t wait to try this and hang on our house! So brilliant!
I need to find a spot to do this, we really need a message center especially as the kids get older and everyone is coming and going at different times.
This is a fantastic idea. I will have to make a message center for my family.
This is such a great idea! It’s such a creative way to keep track of what everyone is doing!
That is a great idea! I have a spot like that sat up inside my house. I just need to add a dry erase board.
I really love this idea of a family message center. I think it would be great for us to establish one too.
I need to do this to get a jump start on Back to School Organization!!
This is great! We have a door that we use for the backpacks but I never thought about adding a calendar there too. And as for food… our problem is that everyone wakes up so early that sometimes we’re still running out the door to the bus stop because there’s almost too much time to kill in the morning and we lose track of time doing something else. I really like the Applegate Farms breakfast sausages – those are definitely a good on-the-go food.
I really love this idea. In fact, my husband and I have been thinking about doing something similar in our own home. Seeing different examples like this one helps me get a feel for what I’d like to do for ours. Thanks for sharing your ideas!
Blessings,
Patty
I absolutely LOVE this! Thanks for sharing the how to for this awesome Family Message Center. I’m going to make one this weekend 🙂
I love organizational ideas that can be hidden when you need it. This is so cute! You got me thinking how I can make this work in my house! Thanks!
The family message center is a great idea. Utilizing the inside of a closet door is ingenious.
I love this idea! I’m in the process of getting a house, so hopefully I can do this soon too. I think I’d love to have a school area like this for my girls.
Cute Idea! I keep meaning to do one of these to get more organized, thanks for the organization inspiration!
I do enjoy yogurt smoothies. All I have to do for back to school is go through my youngest son’s pants drawer.
What a great idea. I think we definitely need to make one of these for my house. Back to school is definitely hard to get ready for.
Excellent idea! It’s always a great idea to be organized during the school year. My kids teachers also keep us updated with text messages and twitter updates with whats going on in their classrooms.
We could really use a family message center like this. I will have to make one this week.
I do not know what we would do without our message board. With teenagers in college it is hard to all be home at the same time. This way I can leave them reminders and they can jot down what is planned for the day.
Megan, the blogger behind The Homes I Have Made , describes how her memo boards and baskets keep her family on point, but we think it’s the happy colors and inspiring art that make organizing more enjoyable.
