After my first baby, I quickly realized there were a lot of items I failed to include on my baby registry. Simply because, I didn’t know any better! It can get costly and inconvenient after the baby to pick up odds and ends that I think every new mom should register for. Here are my picks of registry items that are often unthought about!
10 Baby Registry Must Haves
I remember the first time one of my kids got sick, I found out the hard way that an under your tongue thermometer was not going to work for a squiggly baby! You’ll want a forehead and/or ear thermometer.
Of course, those cutesy baby towels seem to be on everyone’s baby registry. The problem? They are so tiny! Even the smallest of newborns eventually grow and then you are stuck a stack of cute baby towels and nothing to do with them. Plus, I found they never really dried the baby off very well. Pick up some new towels for your whole family or some fun kid sized hooded towels instead.
Motrin for mom
The days after you give birth are going to be painful. Your body is sore and it doesn’t matter if you had a c-section or a vaginal birth. I had both and I can tell you they are both equally uncomfortable in their own rights. Don’t be a saint. I remember being so surprised how sore and uncomfortable I was after my VBAC! Pick up some Motrin for yourself before you give birth!
Sippy Cups, Spoons
Think ahead! As babies grow, they have new needs and these needs can get expensive! Register for some sippy cups and spoons for when the baby starts transitioning. My favorite sippy cups were the Nuby Super Spout Easy Grips when the babies were learning to use a sippy. I found that the kids really liked soft bite spoons too.
Large Sized Diapers
I have been to so many baby showers where the mom-to-be receives a countless supply of NB and size 1 diapers. Be specific in what you register for. I found that my babies were in size 4 the longest and this is something many other moms have told me as well. Some of my favorite diapers were the Up&Up brand at Target!
Onesies and lots of ’em!
Register for onesies of all different sizes. I always liked the plain white short sleeved ones because you can put them under outfits, pajamas, wear with nothing but a diaper, etc.
I wish I had some beautiful portraits of my son being born. With my daughter, I had hooked up with a local photographer looking for some practice for newborn portraits. If this is something you really want, put it on your registry.
This is another one of those major purchases that I wish I had registered for. As a tall person, I found that the cheap umbrella strollers at Walmart weren’t high enough for me and didn’t offer much in the way of storage. The stroller umbrella was so much easier when we traveled. Two of my favorite umbrella strollers are the Quinny Yezz and BabyHome Emotion.
Both of my kids were born in the cooler months and the heat was on. When my son was just a few days old, we went out and bought a humidifier for him because he got so congested at home.
