5 Reasons to Stay at the Crown Reef Resort in Myrtle Beach, SC
*Thank you to the Crown Reef Resort for hosting our stay in Myrtle Beach, SC
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina is one of my family’s favorite destinations for fun! Due to my husband’s vacation schedule we have never been during the “on” season. Many people don’t think of visiting the beach other than during the warm summer months, but I can assure you there is still plenty of fun to be had in Myrtle Beach! At the end of September 2014, my family and I took a road trip to the Crown Reef Resort.
During our last two trips to Myrtle Beach at the same time of year, we had nothing but sunshine and warm weather. This time though, it was chilly and rainy for the three out of four days we were visiting. When you travel with two young children, it can be stressful wondering what to do when you are on vacation and it is pouring out. Crown Reef has you covered though!
Spacious, renovated guest rooms!
In August of this year, the Crown Reef had a management change. The new management team is dedicated to making the Crown Reef the best on the Strand. This means, each and every guest room has been renovated. If you are traveling with family, I highly recommend booking a suite. The layout of the Crown Reef’s suite was so convenient. The full kitchen, makes your trip easier, especially with children! We always bring our own fresh fruit, drinks, snack foods and easy to prepare dishes. There are several supermarkets or Super Wal-Marts close by to stock up your fridge upon your arrival.
The Loco Gecko Restaurant!
After a long drive (10 hours) and being how it was raining, we just did not want to leave the resort. The Loco Gecko became a favorite of ours right from the start. Whether you would like to eat in, take out, or just sit and relax at the bar, The Loco Gecko offers delicious food at a great price.
This was the first place we visited in the morning (think: COFFEE) and the last place we visited at night (think: GAMES). The completely renovated Town Center features the Grab ‘n Go Coffee Bar & Grill, which features light breakfast and lunch items, coffees and over beverages like milk or juice. Also located in the Town Center is Game On! which features state of the art games, which you can earn tickets to redeem prizes. The Water Park!
During our visit to the Crown Reef, maintenance was working on enclosing the water park. Do you know what that means? A whole fall and winter of fun! The brand new ocean-front water park opened in April 2014 with 3 fun ways to enjoy! The EXPLOSION is a tube slide for 1 or 2 riders that offers 278 feet of thrills! The TWISTER is a body slide that stretches 302 feet long! Finally, the little ones can enjoy the KIDZ TWISTER, a Silly Sub and the Treehouse! Besides the water park, the Crown Reef offers more than 20 water features, including 11 whirlpools and the 575 foot lazy river, for indoor or outdoor enjoyment.
With more than 60 miles of beautiful, clean beaches right outside of the Crown Reef’s doors there’s no better place to relax. Rent your beach chairs and umbrellas from the lifeguards or bring your own. A favorite past time of Myrtle Beach goers is collecting shark’s teeth. You’ll find them right where the tide washes in, although for some (like us) they are elusive. Right next door, you can enjoy watersports at Downwind Sails, who offers discounts for resort guests.
We truly enjoyed our stay at the Crown Reef Resort. The staff was friendly and accommodating and you can see they have big plans for their renovations. if you are looking for a Fall or Winter getaway, Crown Reef is your solution. Relax, unwind and enjoy each other all in one location. Close in proximity to the airport makes this a hotel easy to get to from all points throughout the country.
•UPDATE April 2015•
We just got back from our second stay at the Crown Reef Resort for Easter Weekend. A few things were different from our first stay. First and foremost, the enclosed water park was finished and still up. This made it possible for the kids to enjoy the water park, since it was only in the mid 60’s throughout our stay.
Salty the Shark cups are available to be purchased as part of your vacation package at the Crown Reef Resort or you can purchase them seperately for $11.99. Refills are free throughout your stay at the hotel. This was such a great idea and we refilled them quite a few times. The kids enjoyed them at the pool and in the room. We even took them with us when we visited Broadway at the Beach. I am positive these will come in handy for families visiting at peak summertime!
This time we had a Queen Deluxe room and it was still plenty of space for our family of four to be comfortable for throughout our stay. You can tell the room was freshly painted and everything was spotless throughout our stay.
Another change was that the Breakfast Buffet ($10.99/person) was now in the Grab ‘n Go. This was an excellent upgrade to the original location, offering oceanfront views and a more modern, updated space.
