5 Ways to Eat Healthy on the Road
This post was sponsored by McDonald’s as part of an Ambassador Program for Influence Central and all opinions expressed in my post are my own.
My family loves to travel! One of the worst part of traveling though is not only the lack of routine, but the ease at which you can fall into bad habits with eating. When my family is hungry, they get cranky and when they get cranky, I am very cranky!
Fruits & Veggies
We always take a cooler with us. I like to fill containers with pre-sliced fruits and veggies, as well as dips like hummus, guacamole, ranch dressing. We always have fresh fruit like apples, bananas, grapes and orange slices too.
The best part about trail mix is that a little bit goes a very long way. Make your own pre-portioned bags filled with items like assorted nuts, dried fruits, pretzels, seeds, granolas. I don’t like to add chocolate to my trail mix when I travel since it makes my sugar crash and it melts.
In the cooler bag, sandwiches like roast turkey, ham and peanut butter and jelly are packed.
Go Grocery Shopping
When we get to our destination, we like to go grocery shopping for items we need for the time we are away. I like to stock up on breakfast and lunch items the most. I pick up items that are shelf stable or will fit in our cooler if there is no refrigerator access.
I always like to look up which types of restaurants are on my route to my destination, as well as around my destination.
One of my go to meals on the road is a McDonald’s Premium Salad. I have always loved how McDonald’s has committed themselves to giving their customers a salad full of real ingredients and modern choices like fresh romaine, baby spinach, baby kale, Tuscan red leaf lettuce and ribbon cut carrot curls. Did you know that McDonald’s premium salads offer 2.5 cups of vegetables? One of my favorite Premium Salads from McDonald’s is the Bacon Ranch salad.
