5 Comfort Food Casseroles to Try

Everyone loves a big, heaping plate of their favorite comfort foods. Casseroles allow you to streamline the food preparation process, often requiring just a single dish to cook with. Why not combine those two things? This will allow you to combine all the ingredients into a single pan and simplify the cooking process giving you some added time to focus on the side dishes for your casserole or just about anything else for that matter.

Here are some easy ideas to make your favorite comfort foods in casserole form.

Comfort Food Casseroles

5 Comfort Food Casseroles to Try

Chicken, Broccoli and Rice
This traditional casserole is easy to make and tends to satisfy everyone in the family. A casserole with chicken will provide some good protein, while the broccoli and rice offers some veggies and whole grains. To make healthier swaps, use less cheese and more broccoli, switch to a brown rice, and use lean chicken breast pieces in the casserole.

Cream Cheese Spaghetti
Are you tired of boring pasta? Here is a unique twist on a traditional pasta. Add all of the necessary ingredients to a casserole dish and try your spaghetti in baked form. Adding cream cheese to your spaghetti makes it sweet and creamy. This recipe typically calls for ground beef, but it can also be made vegetarian. Just combine seasonings, tomato paste and crushed tomatoes, cooked pasta noodles, with cream cheese, mozzarella and parmesan in a casserole dish and bake.

Potato Casserole
This twice-baked potato casserole works as either a main dish or a side dish for your family. Start with thinly sliced medium potatoes and bake until they are golden brown. Add bacon, salt and seasonings, sour cream, cheese, and mayonnaise. Mix and bake it again until cheese is melted.

Corn Casserole
This is a perfect side or even an appetizer. Make this traditional southern cornbread by mixing regular and creamed corn, with yogurt, butter, eggs, and seasonings to create this comfort food favorite.

Baked Macaroni and Cheese
Everyone loves macaroni and cheese so why not kick it up a notch with this cheesy, crispy treat. Add cooked elbow macaroni, butter, flour, milk, and multiple types of cheese into a casserole dish and bake until the top is golden brown. Add bacon or browned ground beef to up the taste factor a few more notches.

Casseroles are easy to create and simple to share. When you need a dish for a holiday or for a potluck party, any of these options would be welcome!

My mom use to take the leftover spaghetti and make cream cheese casserole. I love it!! I’m not sure if I’ve done this for my kids yet, although spaghetti rarely sticks around in this house. 🙂

These sounds so tasty and easy to make. I wonder if there are some healthy ways to make casseroles that incorporate lower fat ingredients? Maybe a substitute for cream cheese… Hm… I’ll look into it now, thanks for the inspiration! 🙂

These are some great ideas. I admit I’m not a casserole kind of person but you make them sound appetizing. I think I just never see the point as there are only two of us. I tend to make pies etc instead, Maybe I need to get out of my box 😉

I love casseroles! They make me happy because I am a terrible cook. I can usually do these without messing them up too badly. 😉
