How I Declutter and Make Cash Doing It for the Holidays
*This is a sponsored post on behalf of Just Between Friends Lower Bucks. All opinions are my own and have not been influenced in anyway.
For a quite a few years after I became a mom, the holidays would really stress me out. The thought of bringing in new toys and other items into our already small home, the decor and paying for it all. Then I started taking simple steps months before the holiday season to alleviate some of this stress and that has made the world of difference!
• As soon as my kids march off to school, I start tackling their room. We all know that if the kids see you do this, immediately they will want to play with and have a sudden strong attachment to anything you want to declutter. Even if it has been on the bottom of a bin for months.
I use clear plastic bins and do an assessment:
→ Does it work?
→ Can I find all of the pieces and parts?
→ Is it age appropriate?
If so, it goes in my “consign” pile. If not, I donate it to a local organization.
• This time of the year, I find clothing really takes over my kid’s room. With the weather still clinging on to warm temperatures during the day, but Fall temps in the morning and evenings, I am never able to have just one season available. I go through all of their drawers. With the way kids grow, I have dresses, shoes and pants that may have been worn only once or twice and look brand new!
→ Are the knees in these pants faded and worn?
→ Are there any stains? (kids are so messy!)
→ Is it seasonal, but will still fit next year?
→ Do these shoes not fit anymore, but are practically brand new?
Once again, anything stained, ripped, and just not in “sell-able” quality goes into the donate pile. The rest, will be consigned.
Now that I have everything that I want to consign, it’s time make some extra cash for the holidays!
This Fall, I am consigning at Just Between Friends Lower Bucks. Just Between Friends Lower Bucks takes place at The Sportsplex in Feasterville, PA October 20-23, 2016.
