What Makes a Superhero?
When you think of superheroes your mind automatically goes to Batman, Superman and others. But, did you ever think that maybe YOU were a superhero too?
As parents, we have the power to mold our little one’s minds into something that can change the future. Moms are the superheros who will be there to make boo-boos better, missing toys reappear out of thin air, make dinner out of almost nothing and rainy days fun again.
I’ve partnered with the new app Vroom’s #WhatMakesASuperhero campaign. Vroom was designed to give parents and caregivers simple tools that turn everyday activities, like mealtime and bath time, into brain building moments. Vroom wants to empower parents and caregivers like you and I to interact with their children during their daily routines, engaging them in activities that require no additional time or resources but have outsize long-term benefits.
Between ages 0-5 positive interactions we share with children help build their brains.
I often find that even though I think I am engaging with my children, often times I am really just going through the motions of the day and I can really do more to be more present in our lives. Simple moments can become brain boosting. For our family, it’s things like cooking with my children, going fishing, or even just reading a story together.
It’s perfect timing too, with this campaign being launched in the midst of Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. A special time where our children are paying homage to their real life superheroes. We often think that everything has to be so grandeur to make an impact on life. But as you can see in this story that Vroom put together, that is far from the case:
This is the story of Camellia and Cammie, who became a family just one month after Cammie was born. Now at the age of five, Cammie thanks her mother, for every moment they’ve shared together—from simple games like hide and seek, to the most common of routines—like cooking, cleaning, and washing their dog. Everyday moments that have had a profound impact on Cammie’s early learning.
