Bringing out the Bold with Listerine
*This is a sponsored post on behalf of Listerine. All opinions are my own and were not influenced in anyway. I am a long time user of Listerine was happy to post on their behalf.
Last week, I had the pleasure of a special tour of Listerine’s Labs here in New Jersey.
As a consumer, we often do not think about the science that goes into the products we are purchasing. What we also do not think about is who else is purchasing the same product as you and why. With over 130 years of research and science behind them to find out how Listerine can be effective for their consumers, it is no wonder why Listerine can kill 99.9% of the germs in your mouth!
Listerine recently conducted a research study of 6,000 people worldwide to find out more about their consumers. They studied regular Listerine users, as well as non-users, in addition to their habits and hobbies. What was found was that Listerine users were BOLD compared to non-users! They were more likely to do things such as jump out of an airplane, book a trip and travel the same day or eat spicy food.
After we enjoyed a bold lunch of spicy Indian, Mexican and Italian food, it was time to get to know a little bit about the #1 Dentist recommended mouthwash – Listerine.
My favorite part of the Listerine event was touring the labs. Listerine’s microbiologists took the time to give us a behind the scenes tour of how they test for Listerine’s effectiveness and how they are always staying on top of science to ensure it’s ethicacy.
We were shown a slew of amazing scientific equipment and some of the experiments going on, on a daily basis. The microbiologists grow biofilm in conditions that would mock your mouth – wet, humid and constantly moving. Let me tell you the smell of biofilm being grown in a mock mouth is pretty rancid (no wonder we have morning breath!). We were then able to see how the microbiologists view the germs in your mouth on 3D microscopes and virtual reality glasses where you are sitting directly on top of a tooth with biofilm on it.
One of the questions that was asked a few times throughout the lab tour was why do we need to brush then if Listerine kills plaque, freshens breath, strengthens teeth and kills 99% of germs in your mouth? A few reasons: brushing knocks the biofilm attached to your teeth down, Listerine then comes in and kills it. Biofilm that is left attached to your teeth builds up and becomes tarter.
Many of the bloggers at the event were appalled to find out they were actually using Listerine wrong! Are you too?
The microbiologists say that the 99% effectiveness rate of Listerine is based off of 22ml being used twice a day for 30 seconds at a time.
We all did our own swish test to see just HOW effective Listerine was!
The first picture is the swab from my mouth without brushing or mouthwash. We just had finished our spicy BOLD lunch if that matters. Then we brushed with Colgate toothpaste and were swabbed again. The third swab is after boldly rinsing with Listerine Anti-Septic Cool Mint Mouthwash.
It was so cool to meet all of the other bold bloggers at the event from the area and get to know a brand I have been using for years better!
