5 Tips for Decorating a Co-Ed Kid’s Bedroom
As my children are growing older, it became time to transition them both out of their toddler beds and into some “big kid beds” as they described it. Living in a condo, we are lacking on space and my kids share a room. This room started out as my son’s nursery and we never expected we’d have another child while living here, but life happens.
The trick now was to make the one room appeal to both kids and have both of their personalities shine through!
Move away from the ordinary blue and pink for bright, bold, modern colors. We chose to stick with the turquoise blue the walls were (originally from my son’s under the sea nursery theme) because the kids liked it and wanted it! If I had things my way, I would have repainted the room to a creamy yellow, light lime or modern orange.
In order to maximize space in their room, we went with bunk beds. We spent a lot of time trying to find bunk beds because I was very set on bunk beds that had storage space. If in the future, we find ourselves with more space, the bunk beds can be separated into two twin beds.
Storage space is a must! I picked up a great storage bin that can hold toys, video games, books and more. The top portion is the perfect size for their television.
Shared Space, but his and her space. While they do share the room. It was important to me that they each have their own sense of style and space. We picked out the same bedspreads, just in two different colors – navy and lavender.
Finally, they picked out some wall decals from Fathead to personalize their space to their liking.
We had been seeing commercials for Fathead, LLC for years, but had no idea how easy it was to use them. The hardest part was actually picking out the designs! The kids chose some of their favorite characters — Skylanders for my son and My Little Pony for my daughter.
Fathead started with a few sports licenses in 2006, but today as the industry leader in graphics, Fathead offers authentic, officially licensed sports and entertainment graphics for both small and large spaces. You can find graphics from the NFL, MLB, Disney, Star Wars and more. From the commercials, we thought that Fatheads were only the REAL.BIG life-sized wall graphics, but there are many different sizes for any size space. We chose the Fathead Jr. size for our room.
After your Fathead arrives, you will want to clean off the wall from any dust and dirt. We found it to be a two person job so that one person can hold the Fathead against the wall and the other can peel and stick the Fathead adhering it to the wall.
There are an array of vibrant images from Fathead, all made out of top quality materials in a variety of sizes. They are all moveable, reusuable and they won’t damage your walls!
