Transitioning my Senior Dog to Purina ProPlan Bright Mind

My sweet dog, Chester, turned 10 this past July. He’s been with my husband and I since we were first married. In fact, he was born on our wedding night! Chester is an Australian Cattle Dog mix, also known as a Red Heeler. Besides being a natural herding dog, it means he is also high energy, very intelligent (the same intelligence as a 2 year old it is said) and is the most loyal of dogs you will ever know.
This past year I noticed some changes in his overall well-being. I know that for myself, my food choices effect how I feel day to day, so I was sure it was the same for my beloved Chester. We took a trip to PetSmart and found Purina® Pro Plan® BRIGHT MIND dog food.
According to experts at Purina Pro Plan, around age seven, the glucose metabolism in a dog’s brain begins to change, which can affect memory, learning, awareness or decision making. Dogs are considered senior by the time they reach age seven.
One of the major things I noticed with Chester is that he had been seemingly so uninterested in playing and interacting with us. The enhanced botanical oils in Purina Pro Plan Bright Mind when added to the daily diet of senior dogs has proven to enhance memory, attention and trainability.
Right now, we are transitioning Chester to the Purina Pro Plan Bright Mind dog food. It’s about a 30 day process to switch dog foods. You never want to just make a complete switch to your dog’s food and cause stress on their bodies, especially for a senior dog. Our veterinarian suggested starting with 20% new food and 80% old food and then add 20% more new food each day until your pet is completely on their new food.
In the midst of our transition to the Purina ProPlan Bright Mind dog food, Chester went on his first vacation! We went camping and he had such an amazing time. It was so wonderful to see him so happy. It was like he was a puppy again! We are really excited to see the changes in Chester as he continues to enjoy the Purina ProPlan Bright Mind dog food.
