abc mouse reviews for toddlers
We all want the very best for our children and it seems that we are constantly in a competition with ourselves to make sure we are doing that. Starting them on the right path for their journey in education begins early. Much earlier than I actually thought. Even though I bought just about every fun workbook I could find for my son, he just never caught on with me. Obviously my teaching style just wasn’t working with him. What was meant to be fun and quality time, just wasn’t. We were both frustrated! My son, who is 4, is a perfectionist. If he doesn’t do it right the first time, he shuts down. It’s very frustrating for both of us.
If you have cable TV, you are fully aware of the constant commercials for ABC Mouse on channels like Disney Jr. and Sprout. Adam just asked and asked to try it out. After just about having enough of begging him to sit with me and work on a worksheet together, I gave up and ordered ABC Mouse. After reading multiple abc mouse reviews for toddlers, I felt I made the right decision.
When we first logged in, I was shocked at how much this site encompassed. What I also did not realize was that it was not just for Adam. My 2 year old, Julia, will be able to use the site as well. When you first create your account, each child has the opportunity to create their own “avatar”. The kids loved matching themselves to their avatar. They also get some pets for their classroom – a hamster & a fish.
ABC Mouse uses a Step-by-Step Learning Path. I really like how this works. The Path is a series of planned out lessons in more than 15 fun environments. As your child moves on the activities become more advanced for them. This is great for a child like my son. It really makes him want to continue. He is mastering skills and building his self-confidence. I find many sites I have used in the past, do not do this. Unfortunately, the child is able to choose whichever activity they want, many times starting with the hardest of them all. Of course, every child loves to be rewarded! And ABC Mouse does just that. When your child finishes lessons on their path, they receive tickets. Those tickets can then be used in the “store” to purchase additional things for their classroom. Things like toys, activities for your hamster, or items for your fish tank. I really like how this system is teaching children math & money skills inadvertently. It also is teaching them social responsibility by taking care of their classroom pets.
ABC Mouse works with your young student to make their education well rounded. Lessons include reading, math, science, social studies, geography, zoology, and music. Each lesson works in a fun and innovative way to teach your child the core lessons they will need for kindergarten. I like that whenever you click on a new area it says the name of the area, so if you click on “art” it will identify that for your child. The same goes for the book section. As the teacher goes through reading the story to your child, words are highlighted for your child a they said. This is a really important concept many websites fail to do so your child can learn sight words.
If you are looking for something for your child to do while you are doing other tasks, this might not be the program for you. While I find my children to be very proficient in computer use for their ages (while I didn’t use the computer like they do until I was almost 18 years old), there are some activities on ABC Mouse that my 4 year old needs help with. This is usually when he is playing in the “store”. For some reason, when put in front of a computer, children do not see this as “school” or being taken away from their fun-time. We now have to dole out computer time so that everyone gets a fair chance to use their ABC Mouse account.
I am so excited that now ABCMouse.com is available on most mobile devices! You can now access your ABCMouse account from any iPad, iPhone, Kindle Fire (2nd generation+) and most Android devices (Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, Nabi 2, Goggle Nexus 7, Samsung Galaxy S3 & S4, Motorola Droid Razr and Moto X).
We have been using ABC Mouse now for almost 2 years. After our initial 1 year year subscription ended, we went a few months without ABC Mouse. I figured I would just use one of the free programs out there. But honestly, we just really missed using ABC Mouse. My 7 year old is not the type of child to learn from worksheets and ABC Mouse has gotten him motivated and excited to start to read. My entire plan this summer to ward off the summer slump worked, we used ABC Mouse solely. It is so amazing to hear my 4 year old tell me about our solar system or animal habitats. ABC Mouse is not just teaching my children the basics. It is an all around program. We do lessons on science, history, music, art and more. It is helping my 4 and 7 year old learn a well rounded education.
My advice is to check out ABC Mouse for yourself with the 30-day Free Trial!
