smart flour foods pizza
Since finding out about my inability to consume gluten two years ago, I have been on the quest to enjoy pizza again. Many local pizzerias and even chain pizza places like Domino’s have started offering Gluten Free options, but often they come with inflated price tags and inconvenience. For me, I found I had to literally stand over the chef making my pizza, because when I didn’t, I was sick. How enjoyable, huh?
I have to admit lately I have not been taking very good care of myself. Partly because it isn’t always easy to find things in my kitchen I want to eat. Sad right? I take care of everyone else and then there is nothing left for me. I’ve found unfortunately many pre-packaged gluten-free items are chock full of MSG and preservatives, plus high in sugars. That leaves me feeling almost as bad as I did eating it’s gluten-filled counterpart.
I had the chance to meet Smart Flour foods at the Gluten & Allergy Free Expo this past fall. I was able to try some at the expo and I really liked what I tasted, but I just wasn’t able to find them anywhere in my area! I was browsing around Whole Foods the other day though and found 3 different varieties of the Smart Flour foods pizza. The best part? They were on sale for only $6.99. About half the price of the inconvenient gluten-free pizza I would pick up at the local pizzeria.
I picked up 2 boxes of the Uncured Pepperoni and 1 Margherita. Having the pizzas on hand worked out perfectly for me this week when my husband announced we were having pizza for lunch! It felt good not have everyone make concessions for me and I still got to enjoy some pizza with the family!
I love thin crust pizza and smart flour foods pizza is just that. It has a taste that I have not been able to find in any other gluten-free competitor. Perhaps it is the lack of preservatives, eggs, soy and rice? Plus, none of the milk products are not treated with rBGH. A big problem with those living with Celiac Disease is missing out on vital vitamins and minerals. Unfortunately, our intestines are just unable to process nutrients the same as someone without the disease. smart flour foods pizza products use ingredients that provide these nutrients. Maybe that’s why it tastes so good?
The cashier at my Whole Foods said these were a new product in their store, so if you don’t see it now, maybe it will be stocked soon. As always, you can request foods at your local Whole Foods, so tell them you want to try out smart flour foods pizza!
