Boiled Hard-Shell Blue Crab Recipe
So you went crabbing with my instructions and now you are ready to get home and cook them up!
Cooking hard-shell blue crabs is easy! Our favorite way to enjoy them is simply boiling them!
After getting home, rinse them off in the sink while your pot of water is boiling. Make sure to discard any of the crabs that may have unfortunately died. Use your biggest stockpot. You want the water to be as hot as possible. The point is for the crabs not to suffer, you want them to die immediately upon hitting the pot.
- Boil 4 quarts water with old bay seasoning (anywhere from 1/4c to 1/2c)
- Reduce heat and simmer the crabs in the water for around 10 minutes.
- Remove once the crabs have turned a bright red.
Now it’s time to eat the crab meat!
After the crabs have cooled, turned the crab over.
Pull off and discard the tail flap.
Pull off the top shell and discard.
Cut off the gills and discard.
Remove the internal organs.
Now you are ready to enjoy the meat!
You could sit and crack crabs and enjoy the meat or use the meat for something like crab cakes! Get my crab cake recipe here!
