As my children are getting older, I am finding myself really starting to stress about the impending time I return to the work force. It may sound like a simple enough act, but after being out of the work force at this point for almost six years, it is scary! I cannot imagine how much scarier it is for low-income women who have very limited resources. I recently became aware of a wonderful program called Career Wardrobe, serving the women in the Philadelphia area. Since 1995, they have helped nearly 75,000 women with clothing, career skills and the confidence they need to transition back to work.
A Perfect Fit is Career Wardrobe’s annual fundraising event. In 2013, they were able to raise almost $100,000 to support the program thanks to 300 plus supporters. Thanks to Philadelphia’s top corporate and political leaders, as well as local media a Fashion Show is put on. These individuals donate the suit they are wearing at the show to a women in need of Career Wardrobe’s assistance.
