One of the most important lessons you can teach your children is that of respect. Using words like “please” and “thank you” go a long way in this life. Or if you are my almost 3 year old who believes that “abracadabra” is the magic word, then that is good too!
I’ve been very lucky to review many of Suzy Liebermann’s Hugo The Happy Starfish children’s books. Her Island Adventure books prove many important life lessons for children Most importantly those of appreciation, patience, tolerance and optimism.
Hugo learns a very powerful lesson in Hugo the Happy Starfish: Magic Words – The Island of Respect. Imagine a place where using respect and manners goes further than money! Hugo also finds out the importance of treating others the way he wants to be treated. Hugo quickly realizes that if he doesn’t change his attitude — and quickly at that — he will find himself all alone with no friends.

I’ve really enjoyed introducing my children to Hugo as he goes on his journey through the ocean learning life’s most important lessons. I find that Ms. Lieberman is able to take very mature topics and word them with ease for children. The Hugo series is wonderful for preschoolers and self-readers.
After reading the stories, you and your children can work together on some games and worksheets that are free to download.
