Growing up, math was always my nemesis. I just kept wishing I could be good at it or like it, but it was just always hard for me. Word problems, forget it! As a liberal arts major in college, I clearly saw that if I was good at math there would have been so many more open doors for me. But, we all have our strengths and weaknesses and while that is just fine, I truly hope that my children do not follow in my foot steps. I am terrified of what is going to happen in a few years when my son first brings home his math homework needing help. From what I have seen, math these days is taught with completely different concepts as it was taught 20 years ago. Everything seems very conceptual, with lots of word problems — remember, I am bad at word problems? Great!
Thankfully, I have come across a great product to help us (both) — Splash Math. Splash Math has successfully brought over 4 million children up to grade level and beyond. And because it is available to be played anywhere, on any device from the computer to iPod to phone (apple or android) it is easily accessible at all times.
Because practice truly makes perfect, as little as 20 minutes a day is all your child needs. Splash Math uses an algorithm that is able to find your child’s grade level. From there, your child works at his or her own pace with unlimited questions. Because of this, your student is able to complete his or her own grade level and then go on to practice content all the way through the 5th grade. Likewise, any child who needs addition help is able to practice and strengthen previous grade levels as well. Students cannot go on until they master each grade level.
